Teléferico Madrid

Madrid is such a beautiful city and on my recent visit there I felt that I was not getting the most out of the scenery and seeing as much of the architecture that I was hoping to. I decided that the best way to get around this was to take a trip on the city’s cable car, the Teléferico Madrid.

The Teléferico Madrid is a wonderful two and a half kilometre cable car which travels over some of Madrid’s best known attractions, providing a wonderful and

unique view. The car departs from the Parque del Oeste, an expansive park in the west of the city, through to the Casa de Campo, which is a vast urban park containing some stunning scenery such as a large lake. Some of the views which can be enjoyed from the car include the Egyptian temple, the Plaza de Espana, the Aeronautical Museum and the Athletico Madrid football stadium.

There are 80 cars in total, with each being able to accommodate 5 people, meaning that there is plenty of capacity and the wait is generally not very long. Access to the Telefrico differs during the summer and winter months. During the summer the cars are open from 1200 until nightfall, whilst in the winter they are open on weekends and holidays only between the hours of 1200 and 1800. The prices are pleasantly cheap with the price for adults three Euros for a single and three Euros and eighty cents for a return.

Camping in the Scottish Highlands

Scotland has some of the most beautiful scenery in the United Kingdom, and perhaps the best examples can be found in the highlands. With the highlands consisting of vast areas of open land it is not uncommon to find yourself in areas where there is not much in terms of visitor amenities, something which can sometimes be a negative feature but certainly adds to the experience in this area as it gives you the opportunity to be at one with the very thing that attracted you to the area in the first place, the nature and landscape.

Highlands of Scotland

Highlands of Scotland

There are different options for camping in the highlands, including taking your own take and pitching in one of the registered camping sites which are scattered around the area. Depending on what you require from the sight, i.e electricity and gas ect, the price will differs significantly. Another option is to book into a caravan in one of these registered camp sites. This will be a more expensive option but will provide a greater deal of comfort and shelter provide greater shelter from the elements.

A popular option for people travelling around the Highlands is to take a campervan, as this allows one to really get into the nooks and crannies of the area and wake up in remote and beautiful areas away from other people. You should be careful, however, not to encroach onto private land.

Visiting Lapland for Christmas

Christmas is the best time of year for families to come together and share in the excitement of the season, and for those who can afford to get away for some or all of the Christmas period there are surely few more romantic or exciting places to go than Lapland in Finland. Whilst you immediately associate a trip of this nature with a family which has young children, there is also plenty in Lapland to make it an attractive proposition to more mature visitors.

A huge part of the magic of Christmas from a child’s perspective is the role of Santa Clause, the fictional character who children believe will deliver them presents as they sleep on Christmas Eve. Lapland is the home of Santa Clause and the place where (kids believe) all of the presents are made by the hoards of elves who act as helpers in the creation progress. The smile on your child’s face as you take them to Lapland to meet Santa will be priceless, whilst the overall Christmas spirit of the area, complemented by the blanket of snow, are enough to win over event the most ardent of scrooges.

The accommodation in Lapland provides a welcome retreat from all of the chaos at home, with genuine log cabins providing a warm and cosy den from which to you can base your festive activities. There is so much more to Lapland at Christmas than visiting Santa at Christmas….but it would be silly not to….wouldn’t it??

Why Visit the Galapagos

Why Visit the Galapagos

galapagos holidays

The Galapagos Islands are an incredible set of islands with a great deal to offer tourists to the area. The Galapagos consists of 19 islands and 40 islets, and below are some of the reasons why you should consider visiting this glorious part of the world.

Scenery

The scenery in the Galapagos Islands is simply stunning. The landscape is as you would expect from an area which is of volcanic origin, with many highly dry areas inland. The coastline, however, has glorious sandy beaches and is surrounded by wonderful greenery. The glorious weather accentuates these features and makes them marvellous on the eye.

Wildlife

This is probably the main reason that the majority of people visit the Galapagos Islands. The most famous breed of animal to reside here are the Marine Iguana, otherwise known as the Galapagos Dragon. These animals are extremely rare and this area is the best place to observe their strange and intriguing lifestyle. Other wildlife to explore includes penguins, giant turtles, whales, dolphins, sea lions and whales. Sustainable tourism is high on the agenda here as people are conscious not to damage their much loved cohabitants.

Peacefulness

The peacefulness that can be found on the majority of the Galapagos Islands is soothing for the soul and allows one to really feel at one with nature and with themselves. There are, of course, areas where a few more tourists can be found, but even these areas are peaceful in comparison to other tourist destinations.

Getting Around Vienna

Vienna transport

Vienna is a large city in which you can easily wander around all day and get lost in amongst the various visitor attractions. The fact that Vienna has such strong public transport links makes this even easier as you can wander far and wide in the knowledge that you will always be close to a transport point. Below is a guide to getting around Vienna.

U-Bahn

The metro, or underground system in Vienna is regarded by many as amongst the best of its type in the world. The trains are regular, reliable and clean, making for an all around pleasant experience. There are five lines running through the city, with all lines running to the centre meaning that you can access the main tourist areas within a short time frame from anywhere within the city. As a result of large passenger numbers and constant public investment the u-bahn is constantly evolving. Tickets can be purchased individually, in blocks or to cover set periods such as 7 weeks or a month.

Tram

The tram has been a key feature of Vienna for years (the museum is a good visit), and is still an easy way to get around the city, especially as you can use the same ticket for the bus, tram and u-bahn. This method is a great way to see the city.

Bus

Buses, whilst being reasonably regular, are not as reliable as the u-bahn but can be more convenient depending on where you are going.

Gardens to Visit in Rome

With the weather being so glorious for much of the year in Rome you will want to spend as much time as possible outside. Below are some of the best gardens to enjoy in the city.

Vatican Garden

Aside from the Vatican itself, this is the best reason to visit this area. The vast and luscious garden is lovingly cared for to ensure that the fantastic design is kept to the very best standards. The distribution of trees, bushes, buildings, ornaments and open spaces is perfectly balanced and a tour is highly recommended.

Villa Borghese Gardens

This is an enormous landscape garden in the centre of the city which is bustling with character. Inside the gardens there are charming buildings, museums and monuments as well as large open spaces and impeccable flower beds. Some of the best art in the city can be found in the museums here.

Pincio Gardens

This garden boarders the Villa Borghese Gardens and is separated by a series of walls. Having been in existence since the time of Ancient Rome, the modern garden is has a more formal feel to it than other gardens in the city (a request from Napoleon), but the experience is far from formal.

Botanical Garden

The entrance fee to this park is well worth the expense should you find yourself in the Traverse area of the city and in need of a break from the built up city. You can relax amongst the ducks and marvel at the beauty of the roses. The Japanese garden is an interesting twist to your Italian adventure and is well worth the fee on its own.

Visiting Budapest

If you are the sort of person who likes to think outside of the box in terms of your travel locations, you should certainly consider visiting Budapest. It is the capital of Hungary and, whilst it is popular with tourists, it is certainly not one of the more fashionable locations…

Visiting Budapest, Hungary

Despite this, there is plenty to attract tourists to this area, including history, culture, events and scenery.

One of the most defining aspects of Budapest is the architecture, with many grand buildings, structures and statues to be found around the city.

A good example of this is the Turkish baths which are centuries old and can still be enjoyed to this day. The baths are domed shaped and surrounded by historic walls, whilst the water itself is heated and is the legacy of ages gone by.

For those who prefer a more modern approach to spas and spa treatment there are plenty to choose from around the city, something which typifies the mix of new and old around Budapest.

To go alongside the great value for money that you can get in Budapest compared to many of the other cities in Europe, there is also the attraction of the festivals which take place throughout the year, especially the Spring Festival which attracts many of the top musicians from around the world.

Other reasons to visit Budapest include the countless museums, the opera house, the fantastic nightlife which includes open air clubs, the wonderful markets, the shopping streets, the zoo and the parks.

No matter what time of year you visit there is always plenty to do in this city, and all the more reasons why more and more people are visiting Budapest.

3 Ways of Finding Your Holiday

Europe Holiday

Finding a holiday in Europe

There are many different mediums through which you can find your European holiday. Gone are the days when you would have to walk into various different travel agencies and bureaus on the high street just so that you could find the best deal.

If you still haven’t figured out alternative ways to finding your holiday, below are some of the modern methods you can use to source that coveted holiday in Europe.

Visiting Comparison Websites for Holidays in Europe

As with many of the things that you can buy online, there are now holiday comparison websites which allow you to easily compare the details of holidays from a number of different companies on one page. All you need to do is enter in the key information of what you are looking for and you will be presented with a number of options.

For instance, for a Europe holiday, you could specify where in Europe you’d like to go – say Amsterdam, Paris, Lisbon, or Rome, you name it. From there you can then check out the different packages that fit your budget.

Bidding on Holiday Auction Websites

This is one of the ways in which travel agents and other organisations try fill their places last minute by reducing their prices. Essentially, you bid against other people for the holiday of your choice, and whoever bids the highest when it’s time’s up gets to win the holiday.

This method is generally most suited to those who can travel on short notice.

Checking out Holiday TV Channels

With the ever expanding number of specialist TV channels, it is no surprise that there are now specialist holiday channels. The benefit of these channels is that you get to experience a 360-degree view of each resort, whilst the negative side is that sometimes channels can only show the better aspects of a resort–the same can pretty much be said for any media.

Whichever the method you use to find the most ideal Europe holiday, make sure that you only deal with reputable travel agencies so that you don’t encounter any glitches on your vacation.
