My weekend in Singapore

Ask Singaporeans how to spend a long weekend at Singapore and almost all of them will tell you to shop, eat, or watch movies, which is why I kept putting off my weekend trip to Singapore. However, when I got to Singapore, I realised that it was a city with a

lot to offer, although most tourists will first shop, dine and watch a movie or two before thinking of doing anything else.

I arrived at Singapore on Friday evening, shopped on Orchard Road, had a big dinner at one of restaurants there, returned to my hotel, watched a movie and fell asleep. The next day, I resolved that I would experience Singapore in a really big way.

I had already decided to pamper myself with a massage at the Spa Botanica, but before that I visited the Singapore Zoo to meet the largest family of captive orang-utans and the Singapore Botanic Gardens with its beautiful lakes, plants, flowers and rubber tree orchards. I then squeezed in a trip to the Singapore Flyer, the largest observation wheel in the world, which offers a view of the entire city of Singapore.

The next day, I got a bit of Singapore history by visiting the Johore Battery, the Fort Siloso and the Changi Chapel and Museum. I thought I would be a bit adventurous and attempt some exotic delicacies of deep fried scorpions and ants at the Imperial Herbal Kitchen, but chickened out at the last minute and went to a restaurant serving spicy chilli crab, butter prawns and black pepper crayfish instead. I spent the late afternoon hours swimming with the pink dolphins at Sentosa.

I simply could not resist some shopping at Mustafa Center, a popular Singapore mall with more than 120,000 products and finally returned home with a glad heart and several shopping bags.
